Well, everyone probably knows what MANGA is...
Manga 漫画 consist of comics and print cartoons in the Japanese language and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. In Japan, people of all ages read Manga, it started out as one of the cheapest and most relaxed reading materials. Last time, Japanese usually purchase Manga before they board trains on their way to work and after they finished the book they will throw it away.
Nowadays, Mangas have emerged to be the leading art style of Japan, making its way internationally, influencing styles in Taiwan, China, South Korea and many more. The development of Manga is still on the go, as producers now make Mangas into Anime series, which are moving pictures shown on a screen instead of printed on a book.
However I will only be making use of the style and spirit of Japanese Manga. For example, the style of the characters, the meaningful story and the use of grids and speech bubbles. On top of this, I will be adding the essence of digital illustration with photo-editing softwares like Photoshop and SAI, moving the creation of manga from paper to the computer, adding colours and effects on them to make them more appealing.
Usually illustration pieces that attract my attention are either 1) simple line arts or 2) digitally edited pictures with a dreamy effect.
For simple line arts, I felt that those done with tablets digitally appears to be cleaner and the pressure sensor also made the lines very smooth and flowy, as compared to hand-drawn ones. Asides from the fact that I can easily alter what I have drawn, drawing on the computer is actually quite challenging because I won't be able to feel the wearing off of my pencils/pens as I draw, hence great amount of control and lots of practice is required.
For coloured pictures, I prefer pictures that are not so solid in colours, water colour effects or blurry effects makes the picture look more dreamy and magical. This kind of effects can be done with ease with photo-editing softwares, but with skills obviously.
The basic: the picture/line art that is been coloured is nice... =_=
so gorgeous! :D
Something like that. Now I need to figure out a pretty story!
