[WRITINGS] Blabber on Lucia hartini so that I will not fail my blocktest

How unfitting for me to have a post like this.
But blabbering about lucia hartini seems like a good way to revise for blocktest.
I am lying in bed and trying to remember what to say about her.

The most impactful impression that Lucia hartini gave me is that she is very serious with her work because she treat it as a meditation or something to allow her to express her emotions freely and hence aiding her in defining her place in the world.
These emotions had seen a change as time passed and as Lucia hartini herself move toward finding a footing in the society.
We can, with hints from the progression of her painting, say that she has moved from invisibility to visibility, fear to grieving to finally confidence and also from powerlessness to recognition.
The transition was actually a great contrast because her old paintings depict the weakness, sweetness and tameness of women in a male-dominant society and the struggles in her life caused by these social norms. In Indonesia, women are expected to follow orders of the men and remain as domestic-dominant mothers and wives who are not allowed to have their own opinions.
Also because of the social norms and gender discrimination, female artists such as Lucia hartini felt oppressed and this spirred them to question dominant paradigms in an attempt to inject new visions and they doing this by attempting to define themselves through their paintings.
But because of the culture of the indonesian society that disapproves a straightforward crtical and confessionaldiscourse and also because of political judgement, this action of defining themselves is also done in a very allegorical an symbolic way, as an act of resistance and assertion to communicate messages that not only have personal validity but also far-reaching social significance.
Symbols in Lucia hartini's painting which she used to depict her struggle and anger were things like exploding woks, eyes, horses, flowers and the sea and the earth as dynamic interacting forces of the nature. They symbolizes violence, social coercion, vulnerability and lack of privacy and difficulties in establishing boundaries.
Later however her paintings have symbols like clear skies, peaceful cosmos and an image of a strong, confident women. They show that she has enlightened on her thoughts and successsfully defined herself as someone who is courageous and dares to fight for her rights and place in this society.

Omg the structure sucks... Ok now I will talk about her subject matters.

1. Cosmos that chugs in subtle ways over time.
-entry of human figures-
2. Mother-child relationship.
3. The artist herself as a visionary, the executor of not only paint but also a powerful spiritual intermediary between the human world and the cosmos. Imaginary surrealist and lines between real and unreal get blurred. 4. Self depiction the artist's search for herself as a woman, complete with her struggle for empowerment and freedom from norms and judgments in the world.

I like umbrella 2000 I think it's very pretty.
